Carleton Place Nursery

Carleton Place Nursery Ltd is a garden centre and greenhouse at 7164 County Road 29 in Carleton Place, Ontario. Its own site calls it “a family-run tradition since 1988”, and the About Us page tells the rest: the business started with three greenhouses and grew from there, built up by Dave, Heather, their family and their staff. The line printed on their nursery pots sums up the same idea — “Since 1988. We grow’em so we know’em.”

They grow their own annuals, vegetables and herbs at the nursery — hanging baskets, planters, vegetable starts and kitchen herbs, in sun and shade varieties. Beside those they carry hardy trees and shrubs sorted into shade trees, evergreens, flowering shrubs, fruit trees, fruit bushes and vines, and a perennial and ornamental grass collection that runs from coneflowers, delphiniums and peonies to hosta, daylily, heuchera and garden phlox. Their LinkedIn page adds tropical plants and a gift store to the list.

Hardy trees and shrubs come with a one-year guarantee: if the plant does not survive the year, the nursery issues a credit for the price paid. Buying Root Rescue, a mycorrhizae-based soil additive they sell for transplanting, extends that to five years on selected plants — magnolias, rhododendrons, rose of Sharon, Japanese maples and roses — up to a maximum of $200 per plant, with the plant and the invoice required for the credit. Perennials are guaranteed for the current growing season. An online Plant Finder catalogue lets you look up sizes, care and varieties before you drive out; the nursery says plainly that it does not track live stock, so a phone call or a visit is what confirms what is on the benches today.

The year at the nursery has a shape to it. Autumn brings home-grown chrysanthemums, ornamental kale, decorative gourds and a Fall Festival on 19–20 September 2026 with seasonal displays, special offers, giveaways, Saturday live music and activities for children. From mid-November the Christmas store opens with ornaments and tabletop pieces, fresh boughs, garlands, wreaths and porch pots; balsam and Fraser fir trees arrive at the end of November, along with poinsettias, cyclamen and Christmas cactus. Through the season they also run hands-on planter workshops that you book online.

The nursery is open seven days a week, 9 am to 5 pm, and the staff are the point of the place — the site keeps returning to helping a gardener pick the right plant for their light, soil and space. Carleton Place Nursery backed UAFest in 2025, and the festival returns to Riverside Park in the same town on Sunday, 13 September 2026.
