Ukraine's mission in Ottawa — and the flag it sent UAFest in 2024.
The Embassy of Ukraine in Canada is Ukraine's diplomatic mission in Ottawa. Its address is 310 Somerset St. West, Ottawa, ON, K2P 0J9, the switchboard is +1 613 230 29 61, and the office works Monday to Friday, 09:00 to 18:00. The mission the embassy sets out on its own site is short: "Defending Ukrainian interests in Canada, building a win-win partnership, sharing common values, we create a success of Ukraine!"
Consular work happens at a second Ottawa address, 331 Metcalfe Street, ON, K2P 1S3, on +1 613 230 80 15 and at consul_ca@mfa.gov.ua. The consular section requires online registration for consular services, booked through the embassy's own booking page — with an exception it states plainly: no appointment is needed for legalization/authentication services, driver licence confirmations and criminal record checks, which are walk-in during reception hours. The consular district runs from the National Capital Region through Quebec and the Atlantic provinces — Nova Scotia, New Brunswick, Prince Edward Island, and Newfoundland and Labrador.
The consular section lists what it handles: police clearance checks from Ukraine, authentication and legalisation of documents, papers for repatriating deceased citizens, immigration to Ukraine, visa information, the rules on entry and stay of foreigners in Ukraine, and information regarding orphans who are Ukrainian citizens temporarily outside Ukraine because of the Russian invasion and martial law. For emergencies the embassy publishes a separate number, +1 613 617 23 35.
Away from the counter, the embassy carries the political, security, trade and cultural sides of the relationship. Its own account of the political side begins with Canada as the first country in the Western hemisphere to recognise Ukraine's independence, on 2 December 1991, and the distinctive partnership set out in the Joint Declaration of 31 March 1994. Its trade pages cover the Canada-Ukraine free trade agreement, doing business in Ukraine, the Invest in Ukraine programme and the NAZOVNI export platform. Andrii Plakhotniuk was appointed Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Ukraine to Canada on 21 July 2025 and presented his credentials to Governor General Mary Simon on 24 September 2025.
On its cultural and humanitarian page the embassy keeps count of the community it serves: 1,258,635 people of Ukrainian origin in the 2021 Census, more than 1,000 Ukrainian-Canadian organisations, and around ten Ukrainian festivals held across the country each year.
