Branch 192 of the Royal Canadian Legion stands at 177 George Street in Carleton Place. It opened in 1931 in its first home on Bridge Street and moved into the current building in 1959-60. The branch is named for Capt. A. Roy Brown, the Carleton Place pilot best known for the fight in which the Red Baron was brought down, and the name was formally adopted on 9 December 2020. Inside, the Evelyn Wilson Lounge honours a local First World War nursing sister who received the Royal Red Cross and became the founding president of the branch's Ladies' Auxiliary.
The Royal Canadian Legion is a national non-profit founded in 1925 that supports veterans, serving military members and their families, with help on pensions and benefits, community programmes and remembrance. Membership is open to veterans, serving members and any citizen who wants to take part; people joining Branch 192 sign up through legion.ca and quote BR 192. The branch executive includes a Veterans Service Officer and a poppy chair, and the Ladies' Auxiliary marked eighty years in 2024.
The building is also the town's hall. Four spaces go out to members and to the public alike — the Main Hall, the Bunker (lower) hall, the Evelyn Wilson Lounge and the backyard — for weddings, birthdays, stag and does, BBQs, fundraisers, meetings and celebrations of life. A booking request form on the branch site reaches the events coordinator, catering and kitchen access can be added to a rental, and evening events end by midnight with a hard clean-up deadline of 1 a.m.
Most weeks have something on. Cards run in the afternoon — euchre and bridge on Tuesday, bid euchre on Wednesday, crib on Thursday, one until four — and darts leagues play Tuesday and Thursday evenings; some of the card and dart nights are open to everyone rather than members only. A Building Fund and Pot of Gold draw is held every Saturday at 4 p.m., and the branch posts weekly dinner specials alongside comedy nights and live-music evenings.
The branch raises money well past its own walls. CP Catch the Ace, running since 2019 with the Carleton Place & District Memorial Hospital Foundation, has passed $400,000 for patient care equipment and community programmes, and is drawn live from the Legion every Thursday. Rock the Pantry, held at the Legion on 29 August 2026, collected for the Lanark County Food Bank. On 20 September 2026 the Legion grounds host the Town of Carleton Place Community Tattoo, free to attend and dedicated to the Legion's hundredth anniversary. The branch also supported UAFest in 2025.

The branch sits at 177 George Street in Carleton Place, Ontario — a town its own pages place about 50 km west of Ottawa. Everything is on the one site: the Main Hall, the Bunker lower hall, the Evelyn Wilson Lounge, the kitchen, the bar and the backyard, with parking and washrooms on the grounds. The building has stood there since 1959-60.

Where is the Legion and when is it open?
At 177 George Street, Carleton Place, ON K7C 1Z6. The branch's own September 2026 calendar gives regular hours as Tuesday to Thursday 1–6 p.m. and Friday and Saturday 2–7 p.m., with Sundays and Mondays closed; the calendar adds that dates and events are subject to change. Can I rent the hall for a wedding or a celebration of life?

What is CP Catch the Ace?
A weekly community lottery the branch runs with the Carleton Place & District Memorial Hospital Foundation. Can I volunteer there, and can students count the hours?
Yes to both. The branch takes volunteers aged 18 and over, and younger volunteers with parental consent and a parent, guardian or supervisor present. Students collecting graduation hours are asked to email branch192events@gmail.com with their name, school, grade, age, the number of hours they need and the kind of work that interests them; the branch replies with a consent form and an interview with one of the executives.
